The game takes inspiration from "Tenya Wanya Teens," known for its numerous buttons and fast-paced gameplay. In this game, players must multitask by serving the correct sushi to their customers while they can sabotage their opponent by serving incorrect sushi to their customers. The challenge lies in reaction speed, accuracy, and cunning strategy.
The game uses serial communication between Unity and Arduino to facilitate interaction. For each round of the game, Unity initializes 4 or 6 customers with different hair colors (4 customers for the first two levels and 6 for the last two). The hair colors correspond to the colors of the buttons on the control panel that the players use to play the game, except for two buttons: "drop sushi" and "change direction," which are always white.
When Arduino receives the color sequence, it translates the color names into RGB values for each pixel on the NeoPixel LED strip. When a player presses a button corresponding to a customer, that customer reaches out to grab the sushi from the conveyor belt. If the hand and sushi collide, the sushi is considered "eaten." The chef team of that customer either gains or loses points, depending on whether the served sushi matches the customer's appetite.
We opted for an original wood appearance for the arcade machine to reflect the aesthetic of traditional Japanese sushi restaurants. The design features rounded corners to create softer, more inviting lines. The entire fabrication was expertly handled by our skilled partner, Parth. He began by creating a simple 3D model in Fusion 360 and proceeded to build the arcade machine directly.
